What is the Red Hat Society?

The Red Hat Society is a loosely knit “dis-organization“ of women over 50 from all walks of life. It was started by Sue Ellen Cooper several years ago. Sue Ellen impulsively bought a bright red fedora at a thrift shop for a friend who was turning 50. The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and class. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life, and since we re all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection and friendship, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next.

Who may join the Red Hat Society?

Any woman over 50. Women under 50 are invited to become pink hatters.

How can I join the Red Hat Society?

Go to www.redhatsociety.com for information about how to join and for a list of Red Hat chapters in your area. There is also information about forming your own chapter.

Enjoy!

Where can I find the poem about the old woman wearing purple dresses and red hats?

The poem is called "Warning" by Jenny Joseph.  The official Red Hat Society store has a bookmark for sale with the poem on it; or you can google the title and download it from there.
